About

Gail Marlene Schwartz is a queer mom, a dual citizen, and pickleball champion of her household.

She works as a freelance editor and is co-publisher of the new imprint, Skating Squirrel Press. She is also a Founding Editor of Hotch Potch Literature and Art, an international digital magazine dedicated to collaboration and artistic dialogue. Passionate about relationships, freedom, and Miss Brisket, her cat, Gail writes about parenthood, identity, immigration, social change, illness and healing, breaches and repairs, and food (always, food). She knows that magic and possibility lie in the shades of gray offered by art, and she strives to get back there when her inclination toward absolutes kicks in.

When she’s not writing and editing, you might find Gail sipping strange beverages at second-hand bookstores, holding a quippy sign at a pro-democracy protest, or weaving a tapestry at a local crafting circle.

Gail lives in Ottawa, Ontario with her partner, visual artist Erin Needham, and their occasional roommate, Alexi Gagnon-Schwartz.

  • “Schwartz writes in muscular prose when documenting the highs and lows of dating and pregnancy… A sometimes-heartbreaking novel about what it means to be a daughter and a mother.”

    Kirkus Reviews

  • “Author Gail Marlene Schwartz paints a picture of complex human relationships, of family found, formed, and chosen, and of the ways that people find strength and meaning in their lives, despite [their] unexpected turns.”
